The Shoreview Area Housing Initiative (SAHI) is a not-for-profit organization with a goal to create, improve and preserve housing opportunities to single-headed families.

THE ISSUE

As we all know, recent economic conditions have made every day living a challenge for many. More than any other sector, many single parents have been impacted and cannot find adequate, safe and affordable housing. The evidence is undeniable that stable housing strengthens educational and relational success.

GOAL

We will provide quality housing to low income single-headed households at affordable rates. In addition to assisting with finding quality housing, we work with families to provide education on home ownership and opportunities to be involved in the community and schools where they live. The main components in accomplishing our goal include:

Creating innovative solutions to affordable housing in a suburban setting

Providing education to prepare clients for home ownership

Thinking green whenever possible, both to be responsible citizens and to keep energy costs as low as possible

BENEFITS

For Families

  • Families will have stable housing in a premier city with great schools, abundant parks and lakes, adequate public transportation and a strong employment base.
  • Children will have the opportunity to attend quality schools and build a foundation for future success.

For the Community

  • We purchase distressed homes which are in need of minor or significant repair.  We then renovate and maintain the homes to the quality level Shoreview residents expect.
  • We make home renovations that are as earth-friendly as possible, both to be environmentally responsible and to keep energy costs low.

"We firmly believe that in helping families get into steady housing, we are greatly increasing the stability and probability of success.  The stability and success is greatly enhanced by strong schools, accessible transportation and a strong community."  Blake Huffman, SAHI founder
